Banana + Berries + Oats + ___? = Delicious

How do you make a strawberry shake? – Put it in the freezer!

I love puns! Spend any time around my mom or I and you will hear a whole list of puns about cattle - What do you call a cow laying down? Ground Beef! We’ve got a list of puns about turkeys, snowman, and we are adding to our list vegetable and fruit related ones!

I’ve been telling everyone who stops in about how I LOVE to put kale in my morning smoothie. That’s right, kale! I find myself writing about kale a lot and I think it is because most people can figure out how to add lettuce into their daily lives - where kale isn’t always as apparent! Every morning can be a little different as to how my smoothie turns out. I used to measure everything out perfectly but since I’ve been making one almost every morning for three months now - I’ve gotten good about just going for it. I used to think the blender didn’t make much of a difference and as long as I was putting good stuff in then it would taste great. So wrong! I recently upgraded from a Magic Bullet Blender to a Vitamin and oh my goodness! I now can put CUPS of kale into my smoothie instead of only a leaf or two and it seems like it is hardly there. So, if you try this and you don’t like it - don’t blame the kale right away! Getting the right consistency can make or break a smoothie, especially since this recipe calls for oats and they can be a little strange if not blended all the way.

This recipe comes from the back of the Almond milk I get from Costco! Most of the time I will add yogurt instead of a banana but it really just depends on what is in my fridge at the time. Since I am using eating this as my breakfast I also add a serving of Genepro medical grade protein powder. If you haven’t heard of this stuff, check it out! It is amazing and really does mix with everything without turning it into a weird flavor - I even put it in my tea! You can get it on Amazon and I order it with their subscription service so it automatically ships to me every few months. The berries help hide the kale as their darker color keeps it from looking to green - I have had a few turn out green colored when I am running low on berries or just add a lot of kale… but they still taste great!

  • 1 cup almond vanilla beverage - this can vary on the size of blender or how much kale you use but 1 cup is a good starting point

  • 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries

  • 1/2 banana

  • 1/2 cup quick oats

  • 1-3 Kale leaves

  • Optional - 1 tablespoon Flax Seed

  • Optional - 1 serving of Protein Powder of choice

  • Blend ingredients

  • Serve chilled

  • Enjoy ! See you can’t even tell there is kale in it! :)
